What is Vaping?

NOUN

The action or practice of inhaling and exhaling the vapour produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device.

Invented in 2003 vaping has quickly become a popular alternative to smoking.  In the past, traditional options of quitting smoking have been writhed with speculation.  Some people being successful, and others not.  Vaping creates the sensation that all of us ex-smokers struggle to give up, the action of inhaling and exhaling.

So what is Vaping and how does it work?

Let’s start by explaining the device. Vaping devices come in an array of looks, sizes and colours though they are essentially created with 3 key parts; Mod, Tank/Atomiser, E-Juice. In the below picture I have described which section is what.

E-Juice is poured into the tank surrounding a pre-made coil.  When the coil heats up the juice warms and creates a vapor that is inhaled. E-Juice is made of Vegetable Glycerine, Propylene Glycol and food grade flavouring, like what you would find in sauces and ice cream

The mod basically acts as the base of your device. It is run by an inbuilt or external battery.  Each mod is different, and you will need to read the description to see which batteries your mod is compatible with. On some mods you will be able to change the wattage for your preference of a warmer or cooler vape.

There are 4 different types of tank/atomisers. Sub Ohm, RDA, RTA, RDTA.

Sub Ohm Atomiser – this is recommended for beginners. A sub ohm tank consists of the tank, coil and drip tip.  The coil is screwed into the base of the atomiser. Glass surrounds the coils and E-Juice is poured into the tank surrounding the coil.  The juice absorbs into the cotton within coil. An array of different coils are available, read more about coils HERE.

RDA stands for Rebuildable Dripping Atomiser. A coil is built into the atomiser by yourself. Wick (can also be called cotton) is run between the coils.  E-Juice is dripped directly onto the coil and cotton. Creating a full flavoured vaping experience. There is no tank on this atomiser, there for, dripping must occur to ensure the cotton and coil do not dry out which could cause a ‘dry hit’. A dry hit is when you have not subsequently saturated your coil or cotton and you taste no e-juice only the flavour of burnt cotton.

An RTA is a Rebuildable Tank Atomiser.  A coil is built into the atomiser by yourself and the wick is run between the coils. You fill the tank up with juice and the atomiser will continue to keep the wick saturated.

RDTA is really the best of both worlds. It is an RDA with a tank.  The e-juice sits in the bottom of the well ensuring your wick is always saturated.
